Sustainable energy management supporting high-quality care

Woonzorgcentrum Zilverlinde in Olen has long been committed to sustainable care delivery—never at the expense of quality. This philosophy was also reflected in the design and construction of its new facility, which opened in 2017 and complies with all EPB (Energy Performance of Buildings) regulations.

To safeguard resident comfort and operational excellence amidst rising energy costs, VMA explored additional opportunities for energy savings. We also took full responsibility for the site’s building and energy management systems, enabling the care home to focus entirely on its core mission: providing outstanding care to its residents.

Energy performance with measurable impact

For this new-build project, we identified the opportunity to implement an impactful Energy Performance Contract (EPC) with a payback period of just eight years. VMA developed an intelligent, integrated energy management system centred around renewable energy sources—combined heat and power (CHP) and solar panels—and automated energy monitoring. VMA Maintenance is responsible for the ongoing technical maintenance of all systems.

Project highlights:

  • Building size: 5,000 m²
  • Capacity: 70 rooms and 9 assisted-living apartments
  • Guaranteed reduction: 35 tonnes of CO₂ annually
  • Self-sufficiency: 60% of the building’s electricity needs covered through the EPC

This smart and sustainable approach delivers tangible results in both energy efficiency and carbon reduction, while ensuring long-term operational reliability.
