Industrial digitalisation of the production environment with MES
SBEG (Sumitomo Bakelite Europe, Ghent), a market leader in thermoset plastics and composites for the automotive industry, struggled with paper-heavy workflows and fragmented systems. Together with VMA, they implemented a new MES solution that delivers digitalisation, traceability, efficiency and sustainability. This project is a strong showcase of Industry 4.0 in action.
General project info
Challenge
Paper-based processes, no real-time visibility on production.
Complex production scheduling with limited flexibility.
Insufficient traceability for quality control and audits.
Approach
Workshops to align business needs and processes.
Development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) with an agile approach.
Digitalisation of work orders and planning to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
Implementation of digital genealogy for full product traceability.
Integration of MES with ERP, SCADA and PLCs to eliminate manual data handling.
Result
More efficient production with fewer errors.
Real-time visibility and control.
Stronger compliance and audit readiness.
A scalable digital foundation for future expansion with QMS and additional lines.
What truly makes the difference for us is that it feels like a partnership, where we build long-term solutions together. This provides a sustainable basis that is extremely valuable to us.
