From outdated gas installations to sustainable HVAC technology

Garden Store Louise, a prestigious office building near the Louise Avenue in Brussels, underwent an impressive energy renovation. VMA was fully responsible for the design, engineering, and implementation of the HVAC systems, as well as the integrated building management system (vmanager – BMS).

This comprehensive solution marks a major step towards energy efficiency and sustainability. By replacing the outdated gas installations with forward-thinking heat pump technology and intelligent climate control, the building was transformed into a high-performance and future-proof workspace. A fine example of energy transition, delivered entirely in-house by VMA.

Project type

Office renovation

Executed techniques

HVAC installations (heating, cooling & ventilation), Heat pumps (total capacity of 190 kW) , Ventilation system (air handling unit of 11,000 m³/h), Building Management System (vmanager)

A renovation in the spirit of energy transition

The original building relied on an outdated gas installation. VMA completely dismantled this system and replaced it with two modern heat pumps on the ground floor (2 x 30 kW) and a larger 130 kW heat pump on the sixth floor.

A powerful air handling unit ensures optimal air distribution throughout the building.

Flexibility as a key to success

During the entire renovation, two floors remained in use. This required flexible solutions, such as temporary mobile heating and intelligent work planning, ensuring noisy activities were mostly carried out outside office hours.

The complex installation of heavy equipment—even requiring road closures—was successfully managed thanks to close collaboration with specialized partners.

Integration through smart building technology

All systems are centrally managed and monitored by the vmanager building management system.

Thanks to the close collaboration between our HVAC teams and BMS specialists, the climate in the building is finely tuned and continuously monitored.

Challenges overcome through strong teamwork

“I’m proud we brought these complex challenges to a successful conclusion, thanks to our passionate team of engineers and workers. Their enthusiasm and collaboration made the difference.”

– Project Manager Tim Coorevits
