This project involved the phased replacement of four compressors operating with ammonia gas within a highly sensitive environment. The storage areas, particularly dedicated to pharmaceutical products, require continuous thermal stability with temperatures ranging from –25 °C to +18 °C. The primary challenge was therefore clear: ensuring uninterrupted operation with absolutely no significant temperature variation
The success of this mission relied on rigorous planning and a perfect command of ammonia refrigeration installations (NH₃), a natural refrigerant that is now recognised as one of the most sustainable and high-performance solutions for industrial refrigeration of this type. Each compressor was replaced sequentially following an extensive testing phase, ensuring a smooth transition without any disruption to operations.
The site now benefits from a modernised industrial refrigeration installation, improving the energy efficiency of the cold storage areas by 10 to 15%. Most importantly, it significantly enhances the long-term operational reliability.
This project is part of a long-standing collaboration between Galliker and VMA, built on quality, trust and continuous technical support through our maintenance services. It reflects our ability to manage complex projects in demanding environments, delivering robust, sustainable and future-proof solutions in industrial refrigeration engineering.
